Notice: The Kugel cases have settled and we are no longer taking new claims.

Davol, Inc. is the manufacturer of the Composix Kugel Mesh Patch used for hernia repair surgery. They introduced both a large and extra-large model of the mesh hernia patch. The patch is made of two layers of synthetic mesh. Surrounding these mesh layers is a “memory-recoil ring” made of flexible plastic. The Kugel Mesh Hernia patch is placed through a small incision with the “memory-recoil ring” folded for insertion, the ring then springs open and the patch flattens out to make it easier to repair large hernias.

A number of Kugel Mesh lawsuits were filed claiming that the “memory-recoil ring” can break under the stress of placement of these large mesh products in the small abdominal space, which can cause a number of serious side effects

Kugel Mesh Side Effects

  • Bowel obstruction
  • Complete or partial blockage of intestines
  • Abdominal pain
  • Bloating
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea or vomiting
  • Can lead to gangrene, infection, or bowel perforation

      • Abdominal pain
      • Abscess or infection
      • Septic Shock
      • Heart Attack
      • Death

The severe abdominal pain which can be one of the Kugel Mesh side effects when the patch adheres to the bowels or the bowels become perforated has resulted in some patients requiring bowel dissection surgery so that the patch can be removed and the bowels repaired.

In December 2005 Davol issued a recall for the extra-large Kugel Mesh hernia patch. In 2006 and 2007 additional recalls were issued after more than 80 injuries and several fatalities were reported linked to the patch. The first Kugel Mesh lawsuit was filed in December 2006, and many Kugel Mesh lawsuits have been filed since that time.

In 2006 the FDA found serious flaws in the tracking and reporting system for patient complaints when an inspection of the Davol manufacturing plant was conducted.

To date, Pulaski Law Firm has successfully resolved over 200 claims against the manufacturer of the Composit Kugel Mesh Patch.
