With southeast Asia added to the list, the world is now considered to be 80 percent polio free.

Not all drugs are bad. In fact, based on some calculations, 80 percent of nations around the world are now free of the polio virus and its deadly affects on children and families.

Tom Frieden, MD, MPH, Director, Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) chronicles this remarkable news as he discusses his meetings and work on global health security and other important health issues facing us all.

"I visited health clinics and participated in vaccination campaigns, honored to be one of those administering polio vaccine to waiting children, helping make sure those children will never suffer from this terrible disease."

Polio still holds a grip on Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria, however.
